The journey really seemed to take forever. We changed at chicago after a flight of about 1hr 45. Then it was over 4 hours to get to LA although as the time change is 3 hours backwards it seems odd somehow. I saw snowy mountains, a huge canyon and acres and acres and acres and acres of cultivated land where the fields seemed to be circles in squares. Also a LOT of baseball pitches. And flying into chicago was pretty cool - you can see this cluster of skyscrapers on the edge of the lake for ages as you approach and then itapos;s really apparent and clear on the horizon even when you actually land. It must be bloody enormous up close.
flying over LA seemed to take an eternity in particular. Just how big is this city? and itapos;s true "LA is a great big freeway".... I saw the evidence there was a pall of smog hanging over the city and the burbs seem to stretch endlessly into the horizon with their neatly positioned but frankly very very bland looking houses with really rather minimal space and no fences round the gardens. Lots of swimming pools though. Not surprising as it feels like full summer here.
the hotel.... Well, the hotel.... What can i say? i have a chaise longue and bathrobes in my room. The lights work by touching them and have 3 settings (so easy enough even for stupid european to work out). And the pool is a bit full of muck but is surrounded by gorgeously styled wicker chairs and things to lie in with loads of cushions. Thereapos;s even a sort of outside fire. Thereapos;s an inside fire too which i find a bit odd in this heat but there you go.
we went out to eat immediately we arrived having basically missed a meal. So into a diner called stand we trundle. Hot dogs, burgers, weird fried chicken that looks like omelette (whatapos;s that about?) of course being vegetarian none of that passed my lips; i had a greek salad without onions (though i forgot to ask for without peppers too...). It was enormous but about right for what i wanted. Russo was very disappointed that root beer isnapos;t actually beer. And of course there was some mild complaining, what with it not being italy. But you just live with that when you work with italians. There were free refills though and it was just so perfectly american that iapos;m glad we went there.
russo and miracle have gone to find the levisapos; store (pronounced le-viss to confuse me) but i decided to stay in and have a bit of a rest. Enjoying the bathrobe i can tell you.
